ND YAG laser is available in two wavelengths, 1064nm and 532nm. It is a non-ablative laser, meaning that the continuity of the skin tissue is not interrupted during treatment. It is designed to target pigment cells. These specific wavelengths are preferentially absorbed by the pigment (melanin) and the heat generated will cause the waves to be generated and propagated, causing damage to the cells containing the pigment. These damaged cells will be removed from the area, resulting in a lighter-pigmented area.
